2024

Elsa Kavenius, President

Heyy! I’m Elsa and I am the president of Tipsy 2024. I study peace, meditation and conflict research and am originally from southern Finland but did my BA in Malmö.

In my free time I love spending time with my friends, lifting weights or just laying on the couch. I love exploring new cities by wandering in art galleries or reading in cozy cafes. The most important thing to know about me tho is that I absolutely love dogs and horses and getting to pet them makes me eternally happy.

I am very excited for what this year has in store for Tipsy and will do my best that it is a great year for us all!

Youri Dobber, Vice President

I’m Youri, the Vice President of the Tipsy Board for 2024. I am a first-year student majoring in Peace, Mediation, and Conflict Research from the Netherlands.

In my spare time I enjoy being in nature, watching movies and hanging out with friends. I also like to explore different sports like swimming, running and skiing. I am still in the process of getting to know Finland and Tampere, the white winter has been great so far!

Annika Termonen, Treasurer

Hi! I’m Annika, I started as the treasurer of TIPSY in September, after starting in the Peace program in August.

Besides studying, most of my time is spent at the climbing gym or watching shows at home. I am also a huge fan of musicals and hope to one day, when I have time, get back to theatre as a hobby.

I’m happy to be in the board for the 2nd half of the year!

Anezka Boyle, Secretary

My name is Anezka and I am a first year PEACE student and Secretary of the TIPSY board✌🏻

I am from Los Angeles, California and my hobbies include watching true crime, sewing, and cooking. I love traveling to new places and making friends from all across the globe✈️

I am thrilled to see what TIPSY and the new year will bring! ✨

Stine Mark Rasmussen, Education Policy Coordinator

My name is Stine, and i am the Education Policy Coordinator of TIPSY’s 2024 board! I am from Denmark, and last August i left my lovely little island to study Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research at Tampere University.

My most recent obsession is knitting, but i only do socks. I also like running and doing other active stuff, but books and candles have been essential for surviving my first Finnish winter. Despite the cold, Tampere is growing on me – the only thing i’m desperately missing is rugbrød!!!

Moving on to more relevant information; as TIPSY’s Education Policy Coordinator, i will proudly represent TIPSY members at faculty meetings and do my best to voice any possible concerns and grievances you might have. I am also the contact person for harrasment concerns.

Rani Deleersnijder, Events Coordinator

My name is Rani and I am one of TIPSY’s event coordinators this year.

I am from Belgium but recently moved up north to Finland to study Peace, Mediation and conflict Research.

My main hobby is contemporary dance. Due to the cold Finnish weather I have taught myself to crochet so I can make myself warm hats and scarves :). Next to this I enjoy doing sports, reading and film photography.

Together with Ruïe I will be organising this year’s TIPSY events, so if you have any requests or suggestions you can let us know! 🙂

Ruïe-Jalo Wijnschenk, Events Coordinator

Hi, my name is Ruïe-Jalo and I from The Netherlands. I am a student in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research Master and I joined the Tipsy Board as one of the event coordinators, together with Rani.

Besides missing Dutch cheese wholeheartedly (and begging my family to send over some of that vacuum-sealed gold), I discovered my love for crocheting to get me through the delightful Finnish winter.

We have a lot of fun events in store for the coming year already, I am really looking forward to seeing you there!

Aparajita Mondal, Communications Officer

Moi! I am Aparajita from India. I am the communication officer at TIPSY. I am studying Public Policy Analysis. I spent a considerable amount of time playing badminton and in the gym. You can accidentally be bumped into me at SportsUni more often than at the Library. I have an obsession for maps. Currently, I am really invested in learning piano.

The only thing I am failing so far is acing Finnish language. During summer, my favourite place is Hervanta Lake; however, during winter and dark months, I prefer getting engrossed in reading fiction on my couch. Lastly, I’m not a fan of the Northern Lights, so I’m the worst person for anything related.

If you take my opinion, it takes time to adjust in Finland. Don’t fall for myths regarding Finland or Finnish people. There’s a lot to learn if you’re open to it.

2022

Emily May, President & Alumni Relations Coordinator

Most of my work as president revolves around organizational matters. I attend meetings with the Dean regarding Social Science Departmental issues, chair board & association meetings, and coordinate / assist with other board matters (such as communication or event planning). My aim as president is to be as available to our members as possible and am always happy to help or answer questions so please feel free to reach out anytime!

At TIPSY, I step in for the president if needed, and I also coordinate tutor recruitment and training. I thus work to ensure smoother integration for new students at the university. For me, TIPSY has been an avenue to meet and socialize with new people, and to work for the betterment of the student community. Over the course of this year, we at the TIPSY board hope to reach out with interesting engagements and activities. I am personally quite excited and am looking forward to connecting with all TIPSY members in due course

Thank you TIPSY for trusting me with such an important job.I have some earlier experience on working in student associations from my Bachelor’s and I’m so excited to be back in the scene, so to say. I can’t wait to meet more people in our events and see the new students after the summer break!

Moro! I am Elora and am this year’s Education Policy Coordinator in the TIPSY board 2022

I am originally from Germany and did my bachelor’s in political science in Germany and Belgium. Here in Tampere, I study Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research.

As the Education Policy Coordinator, I am doing my best to represent students´ educational interest in different committees and always have an open ear for your ideas and concerns and will do my best to represent them. As part of the conducted survey of TIPSY in January, I am pushing for your voiced interests and needs to be put into action and am starting to build up a network among different other programs in other universities.

I am excited to continue the journey with TIPSY and hope to hear from you with any ideas or concerns you might have either by contacting me directly or through TIPSYs anonymous form.

Valeriia Soloveva, Communications Officer

Hej! My name is Valeriia and I’m TIPSY’s Communications Officer.

I come from Russia, where I completed Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. In Tampere University I study Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research.

In TIPSY I am mainly responsible for updating socia media. I’m checking the email inbox, sending newsletters and meeting agendas, working with the website and posting on Instagram! The most enjoyable part of being in TIPSY for me is meeting new people and getting closer with those I already know! I also love participating in organizing and planning events.

Hope to see you soon on TIPSY hangouts! 💜

Sabeth Kessler, Secretary

Moikka! I’m Sabeth, the Secretary of the TIPSY Board 2022. I’m from the South of Germany and moved to Tampere to study Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research.

My study interests are very broad, but I am particularly interested in the interrelation of conflict and migration as well as conflict resolution and inclusive peacebuilding in the MENA region.

For TIPSY, I’m responsible for administrative tasks such as writing the minutes of our meetings and coordinating everyone’s tasks. Other than that, I jump in wherever help is needed and support the other team members with surveys or planning and carrying out events.

I’m excited to work together with the rest of the TIPSY Board and to organize diverse and interesting events. Thus, I’m really looking forward to engage with and connect our members on different levels including both career-oriented but also fun social events 😛

Kayleb Hagan, Social Affairs Officer

Hei, I am Kayleb, the Social Affairs Officer of the TIPSY Board 2022. I moved here from the United States along with my cat 😺

I was previously a social worker for teens in the foster care system. Along with that, I have a bachelor’s degree in teaching for Middle Schoolers.

I am currently studying for my master’s in Public Policy Analysis while also doing a certificate program in IT. My educational interests revolve around diversity and how to create more inclusive policies for LGBTQ+ individuals as well as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).

At TIPSY I am responsible for event planning and activities. I, along with the other members, come up with ideas that we believe people would be interested in. My goal is to create diverse events that appeal to all the unique individuals of TIPSY, or those who are interested in becoming a member.

I joined TIPSY to meet new individuals and help this important organization move forward. TIPSY has done many great things in the past, and it is the new board’s job to keep up that greatness! I hope to attend many events with you all in the future! 🙂

Anush Petrosyan, President

Moro! I am Anush, the President of TIPSY Board 2022! I come from Armenia and at the University of Tampere I study Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research. My research interests are national identities and nationalism, the role of media in the portrayal of war and peace, as well as peace mediation and dialogue. At TIPSY I’m legally responsible for the actions of the association. Some of my responsibilities at TIPSY are drafting agendas and chairing the board meetings, presenting TIPSY at meetings with YTY and the Dean, serving as a contact person with the university, helping write grant applications and writing the annual action plan and the annual report. The most enjoyable element about the TIPSY Board for me is being part of a group of young professionals who are committed to bringing a change in their surroundings. Within the previous couple of months, as a team we have been adjusting to our new roles and working on organizing social, cultural and educational events for you and making the TAU experience richer and fun. I am very excited for being part of the TIPSY Board and I hope you are also excited to share this experience with us!

2021

Onni Karttunen, President

Moro! I am Onni, the President of the TIPSY Board 2021. I am currently studying in the master’s program, Comparative Social Policy and Welfare (COSOPO). Even though I am a Finn, for the last 5 years I lived abroad. Firstly, I completed my bachelor degree of International Relations at Tallinn University of Technology and thereafter, I worked in the UK for a few years before returning back to Finland and starting my studies at Tampere University. Thus, I am happy to represent all the Tampere International Global Society Students in these peculiar times of distance learning and online lectures. Lastly, I am looking forward to meeting with you all either online or face to face depending on the situation with the ongoing pandemic. Stay safe and healthy!

Henna Levola, Vice President

Hei! My name is Henna and I am the vice president of TIPSY. I have BA in Social Sciences and am nowstudying in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research program. I am interested in people, power, and global justice. I was born and raised in Tampere, but I know surprisingly little about my hometown. I love hiking, yoga, and wine, but not in this order. Hope to see you around!

Sanni Tiusanen, Treasurer

Hi everyone! I’m Sanni, a first-year student in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research program. I completed my BA in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. I majored in EU law and completed a minor in Conflict Studies, which turned out to be the best part of my degree. I am especially interested in Eastern Europe, the Korean conflict and international criminal law. In my spare time I like to watch TV series, paint and go to the gym. I look forward to meeting you all in TIPSY events this year!

Manuela Shampemba, Educational Policy Coordinator

Hello! My name is Manuela and I’m the Education Policy Coordinator for TIPSY 2021. I’m originally from the DRC but I’ve lived in Finland almost my entire life. Before starting my Master’s degree in Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research, I did a BA in International Studies with a specialization in Africa. My interests include the insecurity in the Great Lakes Region and the incorporation of sustainable local peacebuilding. In my free time, I like to bake, photograph and play tennis. My responsibility is to ensure that the students’ opinions are being heard by the faculty so feel free to come and talk to me about any of your concerns. See you around!

Anna Pitkänen, Communications Officer

Hi there! My name is Anna and I am the Communications Officer for TIPSY 2021. Before moving to Tampere, I did my Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights at Malmö University. Currently, I’m studying in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research program. Among many things, my academic interests lie in Post-Soviet conflicts, power relations, and human rights issues. In my spare time, you can likely find me enjoying outdoors, cooking, watching documentaries or relaxing with friends. Hope to see you around!

Nina Kolarzik, Secretary

Hej everyone! I listen to the name Nina and I am the secretary for TIPSY. Originally from Germany, I have moved for my studies step by step further North, first to Malmö in Sweden for my Bachelor and then to Tampere for my Master. Here I am now, studying Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research. I assume we all love to engage with the curiosities of being in an international student community together and our programmes, this is why I enjoy TIPSY. But apart from my studies, you can most likely find me outdoors: running, cycling, cross-country skiing… depending on the season. If you want to explore the countryside together, you can count me in!

Alisa Jashari, Social Affairs Officer

Moi! I’m Alisa, the current Social Affairs Officer of TIPSY. I’m from Kosovo and I’m currently studying Public Policy Analysis. I’m mostly interested in how human beings make decisions and how we can use those behavioral insights for development purposes. Being around people of different backgrounds and opinions energizes me, which is why I was happy to be elected as Social Affairs Officer. I also love long walks in Finnish nature (if you have a dog, please invite me for a walk). Looking forward to a great semester together!

2020

Miriam Kaiser, President

Hi! I am Miriam, the current president of TIPSY. After a BA in International Relations at Erfurt University in Germany, I am now a first-year student in the PEACE program. It has always been important to me to stand up for social justice, sustainability, and empowerment. In my eyes, the TIPSY board is a great chance to contribute to a fun and fruitful study environment and to influence how universities as institutions interact with society. During my first weeks at Tampere University, TIPSY was an enormous help: I got to know a lot of fun and inspiring people and received many practical tips regarding living and studying in Tampere. I am looking forward to fostering the integrative spirit of TIPSY further and to working on exciting projects with a wonderful group of people!

Cæcilie Svop Jensen, Vice President

Hi guys, I’m Cæcilie (or Cici for short), the vice president of TIPSY. I’m from Denmark and studying in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research program. I have a bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from Malmö University, and before I moved to this wonder of a city, I lived in Copenhagen. I’m interested in local reconciliation efforts in post-conflict societies and the nexus between conflict and diasporas, very fond of beer-drinking and scared of heights.

Shannon Nichols, Treasurer

Hey! My name is Shannon and I am the treasurer of TIPSY. Originally from California, I studied Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology and Politics at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Now, I’m a master’s student in the Peace, Mediation, and Conflict Research program. My academic interests lie in the Israel-Palestine conflict and the intersections of climate change and gender with conflict. If I’m not in the TIPSY room on my fifth coffee break, I’m usually at home with my cat relaxing the day away. I look forward to meeting you all!

Ahalya Ganesh, Educational Policy Coordinator

Hi everyone! My name is Ahalya. But if people find that hard to pronounce, I’m happy to go by Aloo which means potato. I’m a Masters Student in Gender Studies and the Education Policy Coordinator for TIPSY, 2020. I consider myself a staunch feminist who’s committed to playing their part in correcting historical/social wrongs. And that’s mostly why I stood for this post. I would like to make sure that higher education is an accessible experience for all of us, and that there is a feedback loop in place in case any of us faces experiences to the contrary. See you around!

Anniina Korpela, Communications Officer

Hei! I’m Anniina. I study in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research program and I aim for… world peace obviously. To accomplish that, I believe the pen is mightier than the sword. To that end, I am a journalist and I have studied a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in journalism. I wanted to study a second master’s degree because I wanted a better understanding of what I was writing about. Applying to peace was my best decision ever and TIPSY is the best student community I have ever had the pleasure to a part of. You can most likely find me at the university´s group exercise classes.

Hilary Mikkola, Secretary

Hey! My name is Hilary and I am from Canada. Since August I have been pursuing a Masters in Peace Mediation and Conflict Research. I previously studied history, political science, and gender studies at the University of Toronto. I hope to integrate my historical background into my thesis. In the autumn was elected to be secretary of the TIPSY board. My interests include snowboarding, reading harry potter (please join my trivia group), looking at old maps, and binge watching the Office. You can find me in the TIPSY room, Rauhaniemi Sauna, or eating munkki at Pyynikki tower. I am always in the mood to meet new people. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Roosa Mäkelä, Social Affairs Officer

Howdy! My name is Roosa and I have the honor of being the social affairs officer of TIPSY. I study peace and conflict research, and before that I did my bachelor’s degree in social sciences here at Tampere University. I am originally from the far North (Rovaniemi!!) but have been enjoying the big city life of Tampere for four years now. Academically my heart belongs mostly to migration and governance and on my free time I enjoy naps and crossword puzzles. Hope to see you around!

2019

Roosa Rahikka, President

Hey all! I am Roosa, a first-year PEACE student and the president (also known as the Sunny Leader 🌞) of TIPSY. Before moving to Tampere, I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Glasgow in International Relations, focusing on international security. At the moment my main academic interest is gender and conflict, and my non-academic interests include pens, coffee (both making it and drinking it), and bouldering.

Anna Sofia Suoranta, Vice President

Hey! I’m Anna Sofia, or Ansku, and I’m the Vice President of TIPSY. Apart from a few years abroad, I am born and bred in Tampere. My bachelor’s degree is in International Relations from the University of Tampere. I study in the PEACE programme and academically I’m currently interested in mediation and international cooperation. In my free time I enjoy the combination of sauna and ice swimming. See you around!

Camilla Halinoja, Treasurer

Ciao! My name is Camilla and I’m the treasurer of TIPSY 2019. I was born in Italy but have spent most of my life here in Finland. Tampere has been my hometown for roughly five years now as, before I started my studies in the GTS programme, I also did my bachelor’s degree in sociology here at the University of Tampere. My academic interests concentrate on a variety of scattered topics such as global relations and governance, collective identity and opinion formation, as well as questions of power on multiple levels. My personal passions are cats, cooking, exercising and reading. And of course TIPSY :). See you around!

Mirjami Mäki, Educational Policy Coordinator

Hey! My name is Mirjami (or Mirkku or Mimi or whatever I’m not too picky) and I’m the Educational Policy Coordinator of Tipsy this year. This is only my first year of living in Tampere, because I came here to do my master’s in Peace. I did my bachelor’s in Turku, but Peace & Conflict research was always my #1 calling. Because you must never be afraid to dream big, I’ve come here to eventually bring world peace around. When I’m not working on that, I’m probably somewhere in the world, waiting for a concert to start. Since I am the educational policy coordinator, my goal is to establish an environment where discussion between the faculty and the students is easy and doesn’t take too much effort. If there is anything you feel like giving feedback about when it comes to your studies, please come to me and I’ll make sure you’re heard!

Miisa Pöyry, Communications Officer

Hi all! My name is Miisa and I am in charge of communications for TIPSY. Before starting in the Peace programme, I did a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and IR at the University of Aberdeen. I almost went for a MDP in Global Development – but I’m very glad I decided to come here instead! I am especially interested in how peace-building and international development can, in cooperation, help post-conflict societies. In my spare time I do a lot of volunteer work (including TIPSY, of course) and I love a good Netflix marathon. See you around!

Natasha Petman, Secretary

Hello! My name is Natasha Petman and I am the current secretary for TIPSY. I have my bachelor’s in social work from the USA with a focus on child welfare. I am a dual citizen of both the US and of Finland. I am in my first year in the COSOPO program and am the first COSOPO student to be apart of the TIPSY board. I really enjoy being able to study in Finland and on a topic that is important to me. I am a big advocate for social change and equality for all so I feel like this program and this board is a good fit. I am excited and ready to get started!

Selja Holopainen, Social Affairs Officer

Hey all! My name is Selja and my responsibilities for the upcoming year as social affairs officer in TIPSY include organizing social events for fellow GSF students. After finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Social Services I spent two years working in child and family related projects in Finland and a year volunteering in Nepal. International development and humanitarian aid have always been close to my heart, so I decided to continue my studies in Global and Transnational Sociology in Tampere, to understand better how the world works. In my free time I like to spend time outdoors and enjoy good talks with friends. I’m looking forward to my time in TIPSY and organizing interesting and fun events for you all!

2018

Rasmus Bellmer, President

Moi, my name is Rasmus and I am the president of TIPSY for 2018. I have a Bachelor in Political Science and Economics from Germany. Now I am a first-year student in the PEACE program. My special study interests are in the field of understanding group identities and psychological dimensions of peace and conflict.
I think it is nice and important that all GSF students know each other and exchange their thoughts about what’s going on at UTA and the world – and I think that TIPSY is a great place for that. I would like to work on an intensification of the interactions between GSF master students, the doctoral students and the staff members.

Justine Kenzler,Social Affairs Officer

Moikka!
My name is Justine and I am originally from Germany. Before coming to Finland, I studied Psychology and Applied Ethics and now I am in the Global and Transnational Sociology Master’s degree program. I can really see myself working in an NGO, think-tank or in politics later on hence my interests revolve around international politics, global justice issues, different cultures and so on. In my free time I like to do yoga, travel, and of course hang with my fellow TIPSY-friends. At TIPSY I am responsible for organizing all social events and I am really looking forward to arranging interesting, fun, though-provoking, and diversified events and to welcome many new faces there. See you around!

Mariela Lampinen, Treasurer

Hello! I’m Mariela, the current treasurer of TIPSY. I’m in my first year in the PEACE Master’s Programme here in Tampere. My previous studies include a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies at Kyung Hee University, South Korea, and though East Asian history and regional politics hold a place in my heart, I am also interested in identity formation, postcolonial studies, and transitional justice mechanisms. My hobbies include equestrian sports, literature, and Dungeons & Dragons. With the rest of the board members we are hoping to build TIPSY to be more inclusive and greater than ever before!

Arto Sillanpää, Educational Policy Coordinator

Hi! I’m Arto Sillanpää, the educational policy coordinator of Tipsy. Before starting on the programme in Global and Transnational Sociology in 2016, I did an MA in Politics and IR at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. I would mostly describe myself as a US politics nerd, but I’m also interested in political ideologies, security, radicalization and political communication, among other issues. My goal as the educational policy coordinator is to develop our programmes and create more cooperation between TIPSY and other student organizations.

Elena Crnalic, Communications Officer

G’day mate! I’m Elena and your current communications officer! I come from the land down under aka Australia where I received BA in International Studies from Western Sydney University. I am currently in my first year of the MDP in PEACE. My study interests include collective and post memory in relation to the diaspora and the phenomenon of long distance nationalism. I love hanging out in our TIPSY room drinking coffee and tea whilst having some thought provoking discussions with the fellow TIPSY members. Im really hoping that new members will immediately feel comfortable and included into our amazing TIPSY family. In my spare time I enjoy hiking in the beautiful Finnish nature, discovering new music and world cinema and travel as much as I can. See you around!

Philipp Bienek, Secretary

Hi all! I’m Philipp and the current secretary in charge. After my Bachelor in Business Administration and another three years as IT Project Manager for international financial regulations in Frankfurt, I followed my heart claiming for something new. Being the first Board Member out of the Public Choice Programme at all, I want to strengthen the cross-programme approach with TIPSY being more than only the representative organisation for the Peace, but all Masters out of the Global Society Framework. Next to putting hard numbers and formulas on social challenges and problems I love the idea of idle and slow travelling – if possible by feet.

2017

Giovanna Sanchez

Hello, I’m Giovanna, the President of TIPSY! I was born and raised in São Paulo, but I moved to Tampere in 2016, same year when I started studying in the Peace program. I am interested in international security, peace and conflict research especially on the Baltic Sea region. During my bachelor’s degree in International Relations, I was a member of the Brazilian delegation at G20 summit 2013, and I also participate in a few military academic conferences related to national defence in Brazil. I have fluency in Portuguese and English, advanced Spanish and notions of Finnish language. I hope that during this year TIPSY can expand its academic and social activities, as well as the number of its participants among all GSF students, proving to be a successful organization on attending the necessities of all its members.

Katrin Winkler

Hi, I’m Katrin and I come from Austria. Before coming to Tampere, I did my BA in Political Science at the Leopold-Franzens University in Innsbruck. Now, I study Global and Transnational Sociology at UTA and together with the rest of the board, we are working on making TIPSY a more inclusive organisation for all the members of the Global Society Framework. Hope to see you around!

Harri Toikkanen

Hi! I’m Harri, the Treasurer – or Financial Expert, as I prefer. Before coming to study in the Peace Programme, I studied IR with a focus on Sociology, Human Rights and Peace & Conflict Studies here in Tampere. Now I’m looking to learn more about conflict management and mediation, especially through the NGO-lens. Otherwise, I enjoy boulder climbing, Farsi learning, sitar playing (such a hippie peace student cliché, right?) and traveling. Cheers!

Severi Raja-aho

Hello! I’m Severi and I’m responsible for communications of TIPSY. Before starting my studies in the Peace, Mediation and Conflict research programme I studied history and social sciences in Tampere, spent an exchange year in Turkey and did volunteer work in Thailand. As the communications officer I want to get more students involved to TIPSY’s activities. I also want to open a student blog for us to express and discuss our ideas about topics related to our studies. As one can see from my picture, food is the love of my life. My random special skill is that I can tell fortune from Turkish coffee grounds.

Jussi Robert Ojala

Hello! I am Jussi and I manage the events which TIPSY organizes. I am in my first year in the PEACE Programme, and I have previously studied International Relations in the University of Nottingham and Politics and Administration in the University of Konstanz. In my studies, I am interested in researching various feminist issues in the world, as well as the rise of populism and its influence on both global and regional politics. In my free time, I play the piano, jog, study and attend different cultural events. As the Social Affairs Officer of TIPSY, I wish to organize many thought-provoking events about various topics concerning our societies, but also get-togethers where everyone can take a break from the world and just relax for a while. I am also extremely interested in hearing about new event ideas, so please, let me know if you have any!

Lydia Taylerson

Hey there! I’m Lydia Taylerson, the current secretary of TIPSY. I’m a half English, half Finnish student in Tampere University studying for a Masters in Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research. I’m generally interested in saving the world, and expect to do that just as soon as I graduate, but for now I’ll start with being a part of TIPSY to further create an inclusive group, working towards the social and academic interests of our members. Aside from doing good, I also like a fair amount of music, movies, and the occasional pizza too. Really anything to hone my procrastination skills.

Nataša Vučetić

Moi, I’m Nataša! I am from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. I am studying an MA in Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research here at the University of Tampere. I got interested in making peace in the world after I survived terrible ethnic conflicts that Serbia and ex-Yugoslavian countries went through. Mostly I am interested in the Balkans, especially focusing on Kosovo and Albania and their relations with Serbia. In my free time I like learning languages and I can speak 6 languages. My favorites are Greek and Finnish (that is why I came to Finland to study). Being a board member of TIPSY is a great honor for me and I like how we can influence things together and make everyone’s studying more pleasant and fun. I hope that in future TIPSY will become even more influential and the membership will grow.

2016

Juho Takkunen

I’m Juho, the President of TIPSY, or El Presidente as some students from the earlier years label me. I’m a second year student in the PEACE program and interested in conflicts especially on the African continent. In my free time I play the West African drum djembé and to prove I’m not all African, I also practise a popular sport among Finns, floorball. I speak several languages, the most passionate relationship being with French. I think TIPSY should do things that its members want to do, be an organisation for all GSF students and follow closely what happens in our School.

Silvie Kroeker

Hi, I’m Silvie! I’m from Canada and I started studying in the Peace program in 2015. I have really enjoyed being a board member with TIPSY and getting involved with both academic and social events/issues. I’m also hopeful that we can expand TIPSY beyond the Peace program and help other international students. I’m interested in many aspects of the peace field, but for my thesis I will focus on education, decolonization and reconciliation.

Iiro Pankakoski

Moro! My name is Iiro and I am currently the TIPSY treasurer, although I do not live in Tampere at the moment (I am located in Helsinki). I was Vice President my previous term so I have a pretty good grasp of TIPSY’s past activities. I hope that we can develop TIPSY so that it will be able to accommodate the needs of all the students in the GSF Framework one day. I’m in the PEACE programme, should be finishing my thesis soon (hopefully!), and I am interested in security, development and Eastern/Central Africa.

Lucija Mulalic

Hi I’m Lucija, I am the Event Coordinator for TIPSY. I am a second year Peace student, previously finished the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb. I am interested in the topics of forced migration and asylum in Europe, and I have been writing and volunteering in this area for years.
In my free time I bake cakes, listen to roots reggae and dancehall, fantasise about a feminist revolution and dream about my future house in the Blue Mountains up in Jamaica.

Lauren Stevens

I’m Lauren, the acting Secretary of TIPSY. My hometown is Reading, a city in Britain between London and Oxford. I’m now studying Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research after graduating from my Bachelor’s degree in International Development with Spanish last summer. I’ve been learning Finnish (or trying to!) for about one year and haven’t yet been able to hold up a decent conversation, unless you want to talk about your favourite colour. In my spare time I enjoy cycling because I can sit down and still feel like I’m doing a sport. I’m an obsessive recycler and a slightly less obsessive vegan.
